How Russian use transport in March-June

The total number of paid fines dropped by 14% compared to January-March 2020 in the first two months when restrictions related to the coronavirus were imposed. However, when traffic jams vanished, some drivers wanted to ride dangerously, the number of the speed limit violation by 20-40 km significantly grew during the pandemic. The number of RUB 250 fines increased by 133% in April-March 2020, compared to 2019. It is evident that many car owners preferred to save money and pay traffic fines at a discount.

The pandemic made Russians use private transport more often. They have already used their cars as often as last year. It can be proved by how often they filled up their cars at the gas stations. In the end of June, the number lowered by 56.8%, compared to last year, and the 1.5% y-o-y increase was registered in the last week of the month from June 29 to July 5, 2020.
